Magicard 600 ID Card Printer

Magicard 600 ID Card Printer Overview

The Magicard 600 is a direct-to-card ID card printer built for organisations that run a continuous, high-volume card programme. It prints up to 190 full-colour cards per hour, carries built-in anti-fraud security as standard and is manufactured in the UK by Magicard, the only plastic card printer manufacturer based in Britain.

If your organisation issues more than 10,000 cards a year, or runs a busy team that needs cards turned around quickly, this is the printer built for that workload. It is available in single-sided and dual-sided configurations, with optional encoding upgrades that can be added at any point.

Print quality and speed for a working card programme

A full-colour card with a HoloKote® watermark takes around 19 seconds. At that pace, the Magicard 600 produces up to 190 cards per hour, enough to handle a large new-starter intake or a scheduled card renewal without the printer becoming a bottleneck.

The colour resolution is 300 dpi, which gives you crisp photo IDs and solid branding. Switch to the 600 x 300 dpi resin-only mode and text stays readable down to 5-point type, so barcodes, micro-text and reference numbers come out cleanly even at very small sizes. For monochrome-only jobs, the 600 produces around 720 cards per hour.

Single-sided or dual-sided

The printer ships as single-sided, with dual-sided printing available as an upgrade. A dual-sided setup lets you put the cardholder's photo, name and role on the front and access permissions, barcodes or emergency contacts on the back, all in a single pass.

Connectivity

USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi (via the supplied dongle) are all included, so the printer fits into most office networks without additional hardware. Wi-Fi supports WPA and WPA2 encryption. You can print from multiple workstations over the network, which suits shared card office environments.

Card security: HoloKote® and Digital Shredding™

HoloKote®

Every card the Magicard 600 prints can carry a transparent security watermark across its full surface. The watermark is only visible at certain angles. Your team can spot a genuine card at a glance, and anyone outside your organisation will find it very hard to replicate. Ten standard designs come loaded in the printer driver, and if your security policy requires it, you can store up to ten custom HoloKote® designs, your own logo or pattern, directly on the printer using Magicard's LYNK system.

Digital Shredding™

Once a card has been printed, the data used for that job is fragmented and rendered irrecoverable. The printer is not a repository for personal data, so there is no card-image data sitting in the print queue that could be recovered by someone with access to the machine. For organisations subject to UK data protection obligations, particularly where cards carry photographs or other personal details, this is a vital piece of security software already built into the printer.

Threat Benchmarking

The firmware monitors the printer's security posture, helping to confirm the unit is operating as expected and has not been tampered with.

Encoding options, warranty and ongoing supplies

Encoding

The Magicard 600 can be configured with magnetic stripe encoding (HiCo or LoCo, ISO 7811) for straightforward swipe-card access or time-and-attendance. Smart card encoding covers contact chip, MIFARE®, DESFire® and iClass®, so the printer can personalise technology cards used in access control systems. Single Line Encoding is also available, which packages data at source and decrypts it only at the printer.

MagiCover Plus warranty

The Magicard 600 comes with a 3-year MagiCover Plus warranty. This covers the printer and the printhead, and includes a hot-swap loaner service so you are not left without a working printer if yours goes in for repair. A 1-year extension is available if you need cover beyond the standard term.

Ongoing supplies

The printer takes genuine Magicard 600 printer ribbons. Colour YMCKO ribbons suit full-colour photo ID cards. Monochrome ribbons cover text and barcode-only cards. Regular cleaning keeps output consistent and extends the life of the printhead. You can find compatible Magicard printer ribbons, Magicard cleaning kits and blank ID cards in the Castlemount range.

Who the Magicard 600 was Designed for

The Magicard 600 suits any UK organisation that needs to produce a high volume of secure, photo-quality ID cards in-house.

  • HR and workforce teams: issuing staff ID cards at scale. The printer handles batch runs for new-starter cohorts and site-wide card renewals without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Security and facilities managers: producing access-control-encoded cards. Each card carries a visual ID alongside smart card or magnetic stripe credentials in a single pass.
  • Healthcare organisations: running continuous card programmes for clinical and non-clinical staff. Both data security and fast throughput are covered.
  • Education institutions: managing ID card production for large student or staff populations. The printer suits single-site and multi-site estates equally well.
  • Corporate services teams: handling card production centrally for multiple departments. Network connectivity means several workstations can send jobs to one printer.
