Choosing the Right Smart Cards and Access Control For Your Business
The right card depends entirely on what your access control reader is already set up to read. Buy the wrong frequency or technology and the reader simply won't recognise the card, no matter how it's programmed afterwards.
125kHz proximity cards, such as our HID ISOProx II or Honeywell-compatible options, work with older or simpler access control readers and typically just hold a facility code and card number. 13.56MHz iCLASS and Seos smart cards carry more memory, from 2K up to 32K, and support stronger encryption, useful where the same card also needs to authenticate against IT systems as well as unlocking a door.
Once you've got the right card, it's programmed on site, either through your access control system's own enrolment process or an encoder, using whatever facility code and number range your system already runs. If you're upgrading an existing system, matching the existing frequency and format means old and new cards and key fobs can be programmed to work side by side.
