The Magicard 300 is a direct-to-card ID card printer built for organisations printing up to 10,000 plastic cards a year. Schools, colleges, membership bodies and medium-sized businesses use it to produce full-colour photo ID cards and staff badges in-house, with security features that protect against counterfeiting built in as standard.
Print quality and speed that suit a working card programme
The Magicard 300 prints at 300 x 300 dpi using colour dye sublimation, which means skin tones in photos and corporate logo colours reproduce accurately. A full-colour single-sided card takes 23 seconds, giving you 160 cards per hour on colour runs. Monochrome jobs run considerably faster at 720 cards per hour, making it practical for large batches of text-only or single-colour membership cards and visitor passes.
The 100-card input hopper keeps the printer fed during batch runs without needing attention, and the 70-card output stacker collects finished cards neatly. A hand-feed slot handles one-off prints and rewritable card jobs without disturbing the loaded hopper.
Card security: HoloKote® and Digital Shredding
The Magicard 300 includes two built-in security layers to protect your data and your physical ID cards.
HoloKote® prints a transparent watermark across the surface of every card during the normal print cycle, using the overlay panel of your YMCKO or YMCKOK ribbon so no extra consumables are needed. The printer comes with three standard watermark designs, and you can add custom designs based on your organisation's own logo or security artwork. The watermark is visible when the card is tilted in the light, making duplicated or doctored cards easy to spot.
Digital Shredding addresses a less obvious risk: personal data held in printer memory after a job completes. Once the Magicard 300 has used that data to print, it fragments and disperses it so that it cannot be recovered. For organisations subject to UK GDPR obligations around personal data, this is a practical safeguard built into the hardware rather than requiring a separate process.
Variants and encoding options
The Magicard 300 is available as a single-sided printer or as the dual-sided Duo, which prints both faces of the card in one pass. You can also easily upgrade a single-sided unit to dual-sided printing later, so you are not locked in at purchase.
Encoding is available as an optional addition: magnetic stripe for swipe-based access and attendance systems, and smart card encoding covering contact chip, MIFARE, DESFire and iCLASS for contactless applications.
The printer accepts CR80 and CR79 plastic cards in thicknesses from 20 to 50 mil. It connects directly to a computer via USB 2.0 or to your network via Ethernet. The printer driver is compatible with Windows 11 and 10 (32/64-bit) and Mac OS.
Warranty and ongoing supplies
The MagiCover Limited Warranty covers the printer and printhead for three years, including up to 50,000 cards or 250,000 ribbon panels on the printhead. An optional fourth year can be added at the time of purchase. The warranty is conditional on the use of approved Magicard consumables and correct routine maintenance, so using the right ribbon for the 300 series matters beyond print quality alone.
To keep your card printer running cleanly, you'll need the correct Magicard ribbon for the 300. For batch colour work, a YMCKO ribbon gives you full-colour output with a protective overlay in every print. A monochrome ribbon suits high-volume text or single-colour runs at a lower cost per card. Browse Magicard printer ribbons for the compatible options, and pair them with blank white PVC cards or magnetic stripe PVC cards to complete your in-house card printing setup.
