Setting up and designing badges

The Badgy 200 installs like any office printer. Cards load into the front feeder and printed badges collect from the front output hopper, so the unit works well against a wall with no rear clearance needed.

Evolis Badge Studio® is included with every printer. It gives you a library of ready-made card templates, and you can personalise any of them with names, photos, job titles, barcodes and logos. If your organisation holds staff data in a spreadsheet or database, the software can pull variable data and run a batch print in one command. You are not entering names manually one at a time.

Ribbon installation is easy. The ribbon cassette clicks in and is recognised automatically, so there is no manual calibration each time you reload.

Print quality and throughput

At 260 x 300 dpi, the Badgy 200 produces sharp photos and clean text on standard CR-80 PVC cards. It prints across the full card face edge to edge, so there is no unprinted white border around the card design.

Colour output runs at 95 cards per hour. For a small business, club or school issuing a batch of staff or member badges, that rate is more than adequate. Monochrome output runs at 325 cards per hour. If you regularly print name-only or barcode-only cards, switching to a monochrome ribbon keeps ribbon costs down.

The Badgy 200 suits organisations printing up to a few hundred colour cards a year. If your volume grows significantly beyond that, the Primacy 2 is built for higher throughput.

Warranty, ribbons and ongoing supplies

The Badgy 200 carries a two-year warranty covering both the printer and the print head. Evolis recommends using genuine ribbons and good quality cards to keep the printer working at its best. Using non-genuine ribbons also voids the warranty.

When the included ribbon runs out, the Badgy 200 uses its own dedicated ribbon range. The YMCKO colour ribbon (part CBGR0100C, 100 prints) handles full-colour ID printing, and the black monochrome ribbon (part CBGR0500K, 500 prints) covers text-only or barcode cards. Castlemount stocks Evolis printer ribbons for the Badgy range. Replacement PVC cards (ISO CR-80, 0.76 mm) are available from our ID cards section, and Evolis cleaning kits are stocked under Cleaning Kits to keep the print head and transport rollers in good condition.

Who the Evolis Badgy 200 was Designed for

The Badgy 200 is the right choice for any organisation that wants to bring badge printing in-house without investing in a high-volume machine or learning a complex system.

  • Small businesses: issuing staff ID badges on demand, without sending work to an external bureau for small batches.
  • Schools and colleges: printing student or visitor badges at reception with a printer that is easy for non-technical staff to operate.
  • Membership clubs and associations: running off member cards and guest passes as new registrations come in, one at a time or in small batches.
  • Healthcare and care settings: producing photo ID for staff, volunteers or contractors quickly, without specialist training.
  • Event organisers: printing delegate and access badges for smaller events where a compact solution is easier to deploy than a larger production printer.
